Year 4 investigate leaves
In science year 4 have been studying nature and have looked at different properties of leaves and ways in which they can classify them.
They collected our own leaves from around the school site, sketched and labelled them.
They next steps are to find different ways scientists classify plants.
Yr 2 - Beautiful on the outside, colourful on the inside
During our whole school focus using the book ‘Mixed’ by Arree Chung, Year 2 mixed paint colours that represented their individual skin tone and hair colour; to create a realistic self-portrait.
We came up with the moto 'Year 2, beautiful on the outside , colourful on the inside'.
year 3 explore the school grounds
Year 3 have been out and about looking at changes in trees around school these last few weeks.
They are keeping a school diary of changes they see.
environmental club - back and busy!
The Wild Environmental club is back!!! The children were busy sowing wild flower seeds in our natural corner of the field. They then had fun digging for potatoes and onions. They harvested all our beans and watered our courgettes. Hopefully plenty of vegetables were being cooked and eaten tonight. We now need to decide what to plant next!!!!
Year 6 Are Evacuated
Year 6 started their new topic on World War 2 by experiencing evacuation to Rawtenstall.
The children took a coach to Bury where they visited the Transport Museum and Art Galley to learn about life in the 1930s and handle original artefacts. They then took the steam train to Rawtenstall where they took part in a mock selection process.
Fortunately, all children returned home having thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
'mixed' by A Chung
Inspired by the book 'Mixed' by Arree Chung the children have been learning about diversity and how we are all 'mixed'.
The teachers have also used the book to launch our year of science and have been carrying out fantastic investigations around colours.
Year 5s investigated absorption and how they could create different colours through walking water.
They also discussed who might use their findings in the wider world. Next step? Year 5 are considering investigating how to unmix colours.
Year 6 looked at the question Can colours have different weights? If you look at what they did and ask a year 6, you will find the answer!
Meet our new Reception children
The Reception children at Alderley Edge Community Primary School have had a flying start to school! This week the children have spent the mornings getting used to their new classroom and teachers through exciting activities linked to the whole school story "Mixed" by Arree Chung.
Miss Platt said "The children have settled exceptionally well, making new friends and getting used to their new surroundings. We have had a wonderful first week and look forward to a busy and fun year ahead."
