Eco-Schools Green Flag Accreditation
We are delighted to share some exciting news: this year, our school has made the decision to work towards achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation.
With the world already experiencing the effects of climate change – from species of plants and animals becoming extinct to microplastics being found in the most remote locations on Earth – now is the time to take action.
The Eco-Schools programme empowers young people to create positive change by leading environmental actions and projects within their school and local community.
Through Eco-Schools’ simple framework, pupils have the freedom to choose the environmental issues they wish to tackle, the actions they want to take, and how they will involve their school and community. The seven-step process takes around one academic year to complete and culminates in an Eco-Schools assessor reviewing our application and recognising our achievements.
Since its launch in 1994, the Eco-Schools programme has grown to reach more than 100 countries worldwide. Not only does it have a positive impact on our planet, but it also benefits young people by building teamwork and leadership skills, increasing confidence, and helping to reduce eco-anxiety.
As a key part of the Eco-Schools process involves our whole school and wider community, we wanted to let you know about our commitment and share what you can expect over the coming months:
· Regular updates in our school newsletter and other communication channels
· Invitations to take part in environmental events and projects
· Pupils who are increasingly conscientious about the environment
