Alderley Edge Community Primary School

History

Alderley Edge Community Primary School is a Cheshire East Community Council Maintained School. The School was built in 1854 and is set in attractive surroundings. St Philip and St James Church is situated on Church Lane, and the school is situated at the end of Church Lane.

The main building, of old Cheshire brick, houses the Key Stage 2 department comprising of four classrooms. It also includes the Headteacher's office, the admin office, quiet area and resource suite. The Key Stage 1 department has been recently remodelled and updated. It is located at the rear of the building, and has two classroom areas, a library and baking area.

The school entrance area was completely remodelled in 2013 to create an easy access area for all parents, a new office area, a waiting area and a meeting room.

In 2014, an area of the lower site was completely changed so allowing an access route for parents/carers and children which does not require them to negotiate any steps.  At the same time an external classroom area was completely refurbished as was the entrance area to the school hall.

In 1990, a new octagonal shaped hall was built, which is used for a wide range of activities including a daily act of worship, gymnastics, dance, drama and games. It is also used as our dining hall. The school’s kitchen is adjacent to the school hall and all school meals are cooked from fresh ingredients on site..

In 2000 and 2003 additional classroom areas (currently used by the Reception and Playgroup children), toilets and cloakrooms were built. We have a large playground marked out for team games and playtime activities. A new playground area was added in 2003 through PTA fundraising and additional playground equipment has been installed since this period, with some additional items in the summer of 2006. New playground fencing was installed in 2011 which helps ensure the children are safe. Since then, we have had full refurbishments of the school toilets and kitchen as well as a remodeling of the main building to include bespoke learning zones for individuals and groups.

We also have a very large playing field maintained to the highest standards which enables us to offer a wide range of activities including football, cricket, rounders, athletics and tag rugby. This has recently (April 2012) had additional fencing added to improve security and safety.  The school also has a very exciting environmental area and woodland which provides us with a first class resource for learning across the curriculum.

The school recognises the value of music and is committed to provide opportunities to learn a musical instrument. We also have our own school orchestra and the children participate in a range of the performing arts.

The entire site benefits greatly from its pleasant location, and the school building is full of character.
