Promoting Positive Behaviour at AECPS

Dear Parents,

At Alderley Edge Community Primary School we recognise the importance of good behaviour to ensure all our children feel safe and are able to learn to maximise their potential.

Positive behaviour management is a whole school community approach requiring staff, children and parents to work together to ensure all our children can flourish academically, socially and emotionally.  Positive behaviour management focuses on prevention, support and skill development for children who are still learning how to behave in the modern world. It praises and rewards children who are demonstrating good behaviour.

Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes and some mistakes will teach you great lessons and make you a better person. To ensure we can all learn and grow from our mistakes, at Alderley Edge Community Primary School (AECPS) we adopt a whole school approach to managing behaviour.  This ensures that every teacher, staff member, child and their parents/carers knows the acceptable standards of behaviour and how good behaviour is rewarded.  It also makes clear how behaviour that is not acceptable will be managed.

We would like all parents to be familiar with our behaviour management policy which is attached to this email. This policy aims to:

•    Outline the behaviour we expect from children at our school (the rules)
•    Provide a consistent approach to behaviour management
•    Define what we consider to be unacceptable behaviour, including bullying and discrimination
•    Summarise the roles and responsibilities of different people in the school community with regards to behaviour management
•    Outline our system of rewards and sanctions
All our staff are trained in positive behaviour management strategies. We ask parents to support us to promote positive behaviour management by:

•    Supporting their child in adhering to the school rules (these may also apply out of school e.g. school visits or whilst in school uniform)
•    Sharing with school if your child is experiencing negative behaviour which may include bullying
•    Informing the school of any changes in circumstances that may affect their child’s behaviour
•    Discussing any behavioural concerns with the class teacher promptly
•    Modelling appropriate behaviour

If you would like any further information or parenting support regarding behaviour management please contact your class teacher or Mrs Walsh who will be more than happy to help. Copies of the Behaviour management policy and Bullying Prevention policies are also available on the school website - https://www.aecps.org/page/behaviour-management/113816 .

Kind regards
