Engineering in Action!
Year 5 have been hard at work designing and building their own wooden bridges, inspired by the innovative engineering of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
After conducting research into real-world bridge structures, pupils discovered how techniques such as triangulation and the use of trusses can greatly increase strength and stability. Using real tools—including saws—and carefully measured pieces of wood, they applied these principles to enhance their own designs.
The result is a collection of impressive bridges that demonstrate creativity, precision, and a growing understanding of structural engineering in Design and Technology.
