2024 WHOLE SCHOOL HOMEWORK SURVEY - Results

Dear Parents,

Please find attached the outcomes of the Parent Survey carried out last term.

From the survey it is clear that:
•    The majority of parents believed that homework should be given
•    The amount of homework set should reflect the age of the child with older children receiving more homework
•    Reading and homework linked to maths and English were the most preferred type of homework
•    The vast majority of parents knew how to support their children with homework most of the time

In response to the survey school will:
•    Review the homework policy and share with parents once approved by Governors
•    Ensure that there is a balance between online and paper based homework
•    Explain to parents that homework is set on a Wednesday and returned on a Monday to provide some weekdays and weekends to try and accommodate all parents’ requests. This also provides time for teachers to mark and then set homework for the following week
•    Remind teachers to ensure all homework is published on TEAMs by 4pm on a Wednesday
•    Remind parents that homework is set and it is highly desirable that it is completed. However, in the event of other family commitments then it should not become an additional pressure. Parents should let the teachers know if your child was unable to complete the homework so that the teacher does not chase and the child become upset or anxious
•    Reinforce that reading, timetables and number bonds are the most important homework to be competed at home on a daily basis

Kind regards

Lindsey Walsh
