VE Day Celebrations
What a wonderful effort from our whole school community today as we celebrated 80 years since VE Day. Throughout the week children learnt all about the World Wars, visiting church for a presentation and welcoming 'Mimmi' Jackson into school who was a child during the war.
On Friday the children and staff arrived at school as though they had stepped back in time to 1945 in their wonderful 40's inspired outfits, whilst Dr Tim Sparks played the last post.
In classes children worked on their "Beacons of Light". The VE Day 80th anniversary theme of "Together We Stand" can be celebrated through lighting the children's beacons at home; symbolizing national unity and the light of peace that followed the war.
A wonderful VE Day inspired lunch was enjoyed in the hall, listening to 1940's music and eating Union Jack biscuits!
The whole school finally came together in the afternoon to have a picnic on the playground, listening to music played by Mrs Aiken and poems read out by Year 6 children.
Thank you to the children for their enthusiasm, Mrs Salt for organising the week and the PTA who helped with the decorations for our celebration.
