..... and still the science continues, by Mrs Walsh

...and still the science continues from Year 6 investigating the power of a sneeze, to experimenting with cabbages and finally presenting their Science Fair projects, to year 1s testing how fast different materials fall.
Year 2 used their science detective skills to find out which dinosaur poo belonged to which dinosaur and then spent the day at the Cataylst museum, where they tie-dyed, screen printed and had lots of fun in the hands-on Science galleries.
Virtual Reality in Science Week, by Mrs Walsh

The KS2 children loved the experience of using the VR headsets to bring science and nature to life in science week.
They learnt about the Poles and the animals that live there that are adapted to the climate. Some children visited space and others toured the Wonders of the World.
Wow! We had great fun.
Science Week Set Off With a Bang!, by Mrs Walsh

Science Week at school got off with a bang... literally as Mad Scientists exploding Erica thrilled us all with the magic of explosive science. We learnt all about renewable, chemical and human power that helps produce light.
Reception enjoyed a buggy focused workshop and were able to observe different kinds of bugs - then make their own.
Year 1 Looked at different types of falters and how they changed light they even use Uva light to look at different colours.
Year 2 had an exciting afternoon looking at chemical reactions which included making their own slime!
Phew and that's just day 1
It's Science Week - Reception have been busy, by Mrs Walsh

The children in Reception learnt all about identifying insect during their Mad Science Workshop today by singing an "Insect" version of "Heads, Shoulders, Knee's and Toes"! The children also had a chance to look at real bugs set in resin to decide whether they could spot the head, thorax, abdomen, eyes, antennae, 6 legs and maybe wings! They also had the opportunity to make their own larva and learnt all about how animals use colour to either camouflage or warn predators away.
Year 1 Inspired by Kandinsky, by Mrs Walsh

Year 1 have been inspired by the abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky.
They have drawn lines of different lengths and thicknesses and have created enclosed shapes. They then added colour to their fantastic pieces.

We Celebrated Children's Mental Health Week, by Mrs Walsh

Everyone in school has been joining in Children's Mental Health Week.
Working with the theme of 'Growing Ourselves' all the children completed lots of fun activities to develop positive mindsets, understand emotions and have a range of stratgegies to use when things are feeling a bit tricky.

Cheshire Indoor Kurling Finalists, by Mrs Walsh

Our Indoor Kurling Team were back in action at the Cheshire Finals
The team played brilliantly and could be future Kurling Champions at the Winter Olympics.
We didn’t get a medal this time but we played well as a team and had a great time with all the other Cheshire Primary schools.
Roll The Dice!, by Mrs Walsh

Year 1 had great fun gathering data during Internet Safety Day.
They worked in pairs to roll a dice 20 times. They recorded the results and started to produce their own 2Count pictograms. The children will then compare their pictograms and talk about what they show. Well done Year 1!

Year 4 Are Enjoying Composing, by Mrs Walsh

Year 4 have been creating bars of three beats with a partner and playing them on a drum. We used the terms jogging, walking and stride to explain how long our beats would be.
We used bean bags to help up tap to the beat of a song. We counted in at different speeds to change the tempo of the song.
Year 6 Inspired by William Morris, by Mrs Walsh

Year 3 celebrated the Chinese New Year today in class by trying out chopsticks to eat different things.
Did you know it is the year of the tiger and that the celebrations last for 15 days?
The children of year 3 were mainly born in the year of the snake or the year of the horse. Ask one of them to tell you the story of how the years came to be named after animals.
Speak Out, Stay Safe - NSPCC, by Mrs Walsh

We have been learning how to keep safe and the importance of telling an adult if we have a problem.
All the children joined in the NSPCC assembly on Speak Out, Stay Safe and met Buddy.
The children joined in lots of activities including "Speaking Out" to Buddy the mascot about the things they are worried about. Children also completed some of the resources share by the NSPCC in class.
Finally all the children learnt the telephone number for 'Childline' incase they need help. Listen to our Reception children to hear the number.
Cheshire Small Schools Football Finalists, by Mrs Walsh

We are very proud of our year 5 and 6 football team who made it to the Cheshire Small Schools Football finals in Crewe.
The team played brilliiant against schools from across Cheshire narrowly missing out on a place in the finals.
Well done team!
Year 3 Create Art To Make People Happy, by Mrs Walsh

Year 3 have been studying the watercolours of David Hockney. They looked particularly at the daffodils, which Hockney painted during lockdown to cheer people up!

Children in year 4 took part in the Change 4 Life festival event at Poynton High School.
The children had great fun and played a new version of dodgeball.

This week the children were programing dance moves to music. They have been teaching Mrs Walsh a thing or two!!

Children from Year 3 and 4 joined in the Macclesfield School Sports Partnership netball festival.
They had a great time developing their skills in netball and learning new tips from the Young Leaders.
Reception Help Elsa Escape From The Ice!, by Mrs Walsh

Reception this week have received a letter from Elsa to say she had frozen some toys by accident and could they help to release them? They helped to plan an experiment to find the fasted way to free the toys or melt the ice. They used salt, warm water, chipping tools and warm air.
Can your child remember which was the fastest way to free the toys?
Year 2 Get Creative in Art and Music, by Mrs Walsh

Year 2 have had a very busy Friday. They've been creating their own rhythms in music and then looked at the Art work of Alma Thomas . In particular they've been looking at her use of warm and cool colours. They then created their own range of colours we've got budding interior designers in the making.
Year 5 and 6 Netballers in Action, by Mrs Walsh

Mrs Lewis took a team of year 5 and 6 netballers to the local schools' tournament.
The team played brililantly and came a fantastic 3rd place.

Year 6 Bikeability, by Mrs Walsh

Year 6 children have been learning how to ride their bikes safely on the roads.
The children practised safely mounting and dismouting their bikes and left and right hand turns.
All the children learnt the importance of wearing the correct clothing including helmets so they can be seen by other road users.
These are important life saving skills.
AECPS Sports Leaders Attend Conference, by Mrs Walsh

The Year 6 Sports Ambassadors joined with children from across the Wilmslow and Macclesfield Sports Partnership for a conference on sports leadership.
Led by Mrs Harris, accompanied by the gymnast Craig Heap, the children collaborated with other sports ambassadors to learn more about how to further improve sport and active lifestyles back in their own schools.
We look forward to putting into practise some of their ideas!
Olympic Gymnast Inspires KS2, by Mrs Walsh

KS2 were inspired by Craig Heap, GB Olympic gymnast, who spent the morning sharing his experiences and motiviating the children to be the best they can be.
Craig talked to the children about the importance setting personal goals, learning from mistakes and being resilient in whatever they choose to do.
He also explain how important English and maths skills are, even if you dream of being a sucessful sports person, as he has found out in his successful career as a TV sports presenter.
The children had an excellent gymnastics session with Craig, loved seeing his medals and will remember the life lessons he shared.
Toby Trex Teaches KS1 About Handwashing, by Mrs Walsh

KS1 and Reception had a very special visitor...... Toby the T-Rex! Toby came with his special elves to help the children learn the importance of handwashing.
They shared some magic elf dust for the children to rub onto their hands which then showed up any germs under a UV light.
We continue to remind the children of this important message in school with enhanced handwashing practices in place.
