The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, by Miss Platt

Date: 26th Mar 2026 @ 2:29pm

Our Year 3 and 4 pupils took to the stage with a beautiful and heartfelt production of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Inspired by Charlie Mackesy’s much‑loved story, the performance brought themes of friendship, kindness, courage, and hope to life in a truly memorable way.

Through expressive acting, thoughtful narration, and charming ensemble moments, the children captured the gentle magic of the boy’s journey and the wisdom shared by his unlikely companions. From the mole’s delightful humour to the fox’s quiet strength and the horse’s uplifting messages, each scene reflected the care and creativity the pupils invested in their roles.

The production was a celebration not just of performance, but of the values we hold dear as a school—compassion, teamwork, and believing in yourself. We are incredibly proud of every child for their dedication, confidence, and joy on stage.

A heartfelt thank‑you to the staff team for their support and to our families for cheering the children on. It was a truly special performance that will stay with us for a long time.

Reception’s Inspiring Trip to the Whitworth Art Gallery, by Miss Platt

Date: 26th Mar 2026 @ 11:00am

Reception had a wonderfully creative day at the Whitworth Art Gallery, packed with hands‑on art, exploration and imagination. The children tried their hand at etching and sculpting trees, then worked together to create a stunning whole‑class leaf collage. They also learned about “The Great Wave” by the Japanese artist Hokusai and sketched their own landscapes inspired by Japan’s dramatic scenery.

One of the highlights of the day was an exciting art hunt around the gallery, where the children searched for hidden details tucked away in sculptures, tapestries and paintings. Their curiosity and enthusiasm were incredible to see!

It was such a busy, exciting and exhausting adventure that more than a few children fell fast asleep on the coach journey home!

Year 6 Enjoy a Fantastic Afternoon at Crucial Crew!, by Miss Platt

Date: 26th Mar 2026 @ 10:43am

Year 6 had a brilliant afternoon at the Crucial Crew child‑safety event at Macclesfield Rugby Club. The children took part in a series of hands‑on workshops designed to help them build confidence, learn important life skills and understand how to keep themselves — and others — safe as they move towards secondary school.
They threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm, but a firm favourite of the day was definitely the “beer goggles” experience! Lots of laughs were had as the children discovered just how tricky (and disorientating!) everyday tasks become under the influence — a memorable and powerful reminder about making safe choices.
Well done, Year 6 — you represented our school brilliantly!

Chromatography in Year 3, by Miss Platt

Date: 19th Mar 2026 @ 9:52am

Year 3 returned from lunch to find a mystery waiting for them — the glue sticks had vanished, and a handwritten note had been left behind. Their challenge was to use chromatography to work out which pen had written the note and uncover the culprit.
To investigate, the children placed a small dot of ink from each suspect pen onto a piece of paper towel. Using pipettes, they carefully added drops of water and watched as the colours in the ink began to separate and spread. Each group compared the patterns created by the different pens with the ink from the note, looking closely at how the colours travelled through the paper.
After some impressive scientific detective work, every group concluded that Pen Number 1 — the handwriting pen — was responsible. The children were fascinated by the colourful ink patterns and thoroughly enjoyed this hands‑on introduction to chromatography and problem‑solving.

British Science Week: How Do Boats Float?, by Miss Platt

Date: 19th Mar 2026 @ 9:47am

As part of British Science Week, Year 6 dived into a hands‑on investigation exploring the question: How do boats float? Using only paper, foil and a selection of marbles, pupils designed and built their own miniature rafts—testing how shape, structure and material choices affected buoyancy.
Working like real engineers, the children planned, adapted and refined their designs before carefully placing them in water to see how many marbles each raft could hold. There was plenty of problem‑solving, creative thinking and scientific discussion as they compared results and explored why some models stayed afloat longer than others.
The classroom was full of curiosity, teamwork and excitement—exactly what Science Week is all about!

Year 6 Science Fair, by Miss Platt

Date: 19th Mar 2026 @ 9:44am

Year 6 Science Fair 2026
Our Year 6 children have wowed us once again with their creativity, curiosity and impressive scientific thinking at this year’s Science Fair! Over the past few weeks, pupils have been working hard at home to design and carry out their own original investigations—from forming hypotheses and planning experiments to recording data and drawing thoughtful conclusions.
Today, they proudly presented their projects in the school hall, sharing their findings with classmates, staff and visiting families. It was wonderful to see such a wide range of questions being explored, all driven by the children’s own interests and enthusiasm for science.
We are incredibly proud of the effort, independence and scientific rigour shown by every member of Year 6. A huge well done to all our young scientists—and thank you to families for supporting them along the way.
Enjoy the photos capturing some of the highlights from this inspiring afternoon!

Year 1 have been busy scientists!, by Miss Platt

Date: 13th Mar 2026 @ 10:04am

This week in Year 1, the children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a range of activities to celebrate Science Week. We began by creating detailed fact files about Nobel Prize–winning scientist Linda Brown Buck, developing our understanding of her important contributions to the study of the human sense of smell.
The children also applied their problem‑solving and design skills by constructing and testing their own paper aeroplanes. There was great anticipation as each flight was measured to determine which design travelled the furthest, encouraging the children to think scientifically about factors such as shape, weight, and force.
In addition, we explored how sheepdogs are trained to herd sheep, gaining an appreciation for their remarkable intelligence and teamwork with farmers. This learning led to a thoughtful discussion about the role of cow pats in the environment and their importance within farming ecosystems.
It has been a highly engaging and informative week, with the children demonstrating curiosity, enthusiasm, and a growing confidence in scientific thinking

Year 6 Explore ‘Science with Cabbages’!, by Miss Platt

The children explored a range of practical investigations, from extracting colours from cabbage leaves to testing acids and alkalis using natural indicators.
They loved getting stuck into real scientific enquiry—predicting, observing, experimenting, and drawing conclusions just like professional scientists. The room was filled with curiosity, collaboration, and plenty of awe and wonder as pupils discovered how everyday materials can reveal amazing scientific secrets.
It was a brilliant day of learning, fun, and cabbage‑powered science!

Storm‑Ready Nests: Year 6 Take on the Science Challenge, by Miss Platt

Date: 12th Mar 2026 @ 1:44pm

As part of British Science Week, Year 6 explored how birds build their nests and what makes a strong, weather‑proof structure. After researching different natural materials, pupils designed and created their own prototype nests. To put their creations to the test, we simulated stormy weather by pouring water over them and wafting them with a book to mimic strong winds. Year 6 had great fun investigating which designs could withstand the elements — just like real nest‑building scientists!
