Year 6 Loved Tchoukball, by Mrs Walsh

Tchoukball is a team sport invented in the 1960s taking inspiration from handball, volleyball and Basque pelota.

Year 6 visited Wilmlsow High School to learn this new sport and had great fun developing new skills.

The fantastic AECPS netball team came 2nd in the area competition.

They played brilliantly and came 2nd overall out of 12 schools. They only lost once to the eventual winners.

Do you know about the ancient Mayan culture? Year 5 Do!, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 had a fantastic day investigating the world of the Ancient Maya

Dr Diane Davies, an archaeologist, specialising on the Maya (a culture from Central America) visited year 5 with her fascinating artefacts and stories of her adventures and work as an archaeologist.

Little is known about the Maya in the UK, year 5 have really been enjoying learning about this amazing culture.

They are now our experts who can share their new knowledge and impress us with their understanding of this historical period.

Members of Year 4 and Year 6 baked and held a bake sale for the children in Year 4 to raise money to buy a new rug for our Chill Out Zone. The cakes were delicious and the fund raiser was a great success! 

Mrs Walsh is now going to use the money to buy a new rug.

AECPS Sports Ambassadors attend local conference, by Mrs Walsh

The Year 6 Sports Leaders attended the Macclesfield School Sports Partnership annual conference.

The leaders supported the commitment to ensure all children are physically active for at least one hour per day (not including PE lessons and break times) and came away with some great ideas to try and make our lessons more physically active.

All the children have been learning new topics in history.

Year 1 are learning about schooling 100 years ago.

Year 2 are learning about how Alderley Edge high street has changed.

Year 3 are deciding whether or not they would choose to live in the stone, bronze or iron age.

Year 4 are investigating the Roman invasion of Britain and their legacy

Year 5 have traveled back to the Mayan civilization

Year 6 are comparing crime and punishment through out the ages.

We are developing out abilities to think like historians, learn from artifacts, make comparisons, identify similarities and differences between the eras and draw conclusions.

Y6 Learn to Cycle Safely on the Roads, by Mrs Walsh

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed taking part and passing their Bikeability Level 2.  

Bikeability is the government's national cycle programme.  It helps children learn practical skills and understand how to cycle on today's roads.  Bikeabilty gives everyone the confidence to cycle and enjoy this skill for life.  

Year 5 Experience Art Master Class, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 have had an art master class with international artist Rob Ward.

Rob visited the children to tell them about his career in art and to teach them how to explore their environment, be creative and develop their painting techniques.

The children explained how much they had learnt and felt very lucky to have had such an amazing opportunity.

Y3 and Y4 Multi-Sports, by Mrs Walsh

Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a multisports afternoon at Wilmslow High School.

They rotated around different sports and had an amazing time developing new skills and having fun!

Year 3 have been studying the art work of David Hockney.

They recreated his famous daffodils to cheer everyone up. We think they do, don't you?

The children really enjoyed playing in the snow at break times today.

They were very creative  making snowmen, snow angels, snow squirrels and igloos!

Year 1 have been looking at the work of artist Wassily Kandinsky. 

In groups, they discussed their interpretations of his fabulous abstract art! 

They can't wait to explore line and shape in their own artwork!   

Year 1 Learn About Algorithms, by Mrs Walsh

Year 1 had a great computing session thinking about the importance of following instructions. 

They talked about algorithms in their day to day lives and then worked with a partner to give and receive an algorithm.   What great fun!

Celebrating Differences in PSHE, by Mrs Walsh

As part of our work in Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) on "Families and Care" the children in Reception have been learning about different types of families.

They looked at lots of different examples from familiar stories and TV characters and then discussed how these families were different from their own.

The children then drew their own family, discussing family members and pets and whether they lived in one house or two and talked about how everybody's family is different!

Year 3 Geologists, by Mrs Walsh

With great enthusiasm Year 3 set about their science lesson this afternoon, observing and handling rocks in the classroom.

They were trying to discover as many rock properties as possible.  The children closely observed , handled the rocks and recorded their observations.

At AECPS we put high value on delivering our curriculum using high quality texts.

These texts not only help us to ignite excitement and intrigue to aid with our literacy work, but also help us to explore our "No Outsiders" topics, P4C and of course our history and geography topics amongst others. During the Autumn term each class displayed their key texts in the school hall on our whole school bookshelves.

We cannot wait to find out what everybody will be reading next as we launch into 2023!

The children were delighted when Father Christmas made a special detour from his busy schedule to visit AECPS.

Father Christmas visited all the children in their classrooms and then joined the KS1 children for their Christmas breakfast.

He even left us all an early Christmas gift!

KS1 Perform their Nativity, by Mrs Walsh

Our KS1 children performed their version of the nativity story called 'Prickly Hay'

The children in reception, year 1 and 2 sang beautifully and remembered all their words.

They taught us that we can all 'Make a Difference' not matter how small, it all matters.

They brought Christmas joy to their parents and really 'Made a Difference'!

Stunning Collage by Year 6, by Mrs Walsh

As part of the Year 6 art curriculum, the children had to design a collage by consistently referring back to annotated plans.

They choose an art classic and replicated it into the style of Jane Perkins. 

Their brief was to mix contrasting textures: rough/smooth plain/patterned as well as to combine pattern, tone and shape. 

The children worked in groups to create an end piece.
